Focused, ready

This is a game that is just a step to something better with the playoffs next week.

Our practices this week will determine not only the conditioning and mental toughness of the team but also the fire and determination -- we have to come out fired up Friday to keep the momentum going into the playoffs.

Stop at nothing

We have been motivated as a team since we walked off the field at Kimbrough after that loss to Muleshoe last year (in bidistrict, 34-20).

As soon as we lost that game we were in the locker room and everybody’s heads were down. I looked around and saw all we had coming back. I told everybody that team we just played is going to win state.

And they did.

I was so mad because I knew we should hav beat them. But at the same time looking around the locker room I knew it was our turn. Every day since that loss, even over Christmas break and during the summer, the majority of the team gets up at 6:30 in the morning and lifts weights.

We all put tape our fingers (like a ring) every day to remind us if we don’t work hard that ring is not going to be there in the end.

We have aren’t satisfied what we have done so far. And we aren’t going to be.

We are looking to play the best and beat the best. We try to get better every day. We have played good teams so far, but we wish we could have scheduled better teams. Like we really want to play Amarillo High and Tascosa to show we can play with those guys.

Stratford Showdown

Friday is an important matchup against the top-ranked Stratford.

Each week we prepare for our Friday night game. Here are our top 5 rituals we go through to prepare ourselves every week:

1. Watch film of our opponent

2. Give 110% in practice (of course)

3. Lift weights

4. Maintain the right mind set, not just on Friday, but the second we win a game the focus is on the next team.

And 5. We live by the rule: "They may bust a big play but we just move on. We must have a next-play mentality. MAKE 'EM SNAP IT AGAIN" - Jeff Smith, Bushland defensive coordinator

Bring on the Bulldogs

Tonight the Falcons are at Borger. This will be our biggest game of the year and we are ready.

This is the third team we face of the larger 3A scale. We practice, and work hard – 2A, 3A, 5A, doesn’t matter. The harder working, better team wins as long as they work. We as a team out-work every other team everyday.

Every touchdown is a team effort

The first thig that goes through my head when I catch a pass for a touchdown is "great throw"; second is "good job lineman". Without those guys doing a great job I may as well go hand out water bottles. They are hard workers and I know what they are doing is not easy but I'm very thankful they are out there everyday. When I score, I hand the ball to the ref. No showboating.

The two guys I love to hear about, watch play and talk to are Ziggy Hood and Auston English. There are a lot of players with great size, speed and strength but these two work hard and get better every day. They have what I dream about: "the vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when no one else is watching" – Anson Dorrance, University of North Carolina women's soccer head coach.

These guys are two of the guys I've looked up too my whole life.

These boys can play

We weren't picked to win last year’s homecoming game against Stratford. Before the game we played “Another one Bites the Dust” — we won by 21 points that night. So we play it before every game now. The Stratford players who had graduated and watched the game realized: these boys can play.

This team is different from anything I’ve ever had. We look good and we work hard every day. We’re looking to go to the state championship. Staying healthy, working hard day in and day out — it will be hard to stay consistent.

I’m all about our team. Really, after losing that game last year to Muleshoe it put it all in perspective: how good we were, how good we’ll be.
